should Australia accept more refugees

Should Australia accept more refugees?

Politicians and the media are constantly fear mongering people and portraying asylum seekers and refugees as criminals and/or possible terrorist threat. With this information being force feed into people by newspapers, television programs and other forms of media, they cannot distinguish between subjective opinions and objective facts.

Here are some objective opinions

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees estimated that in 2009-2010, globally there were 16 million asylum seekers each of which had left their own country to move elsewhere. Within this time period, 11,934 asylum seekers arrived in Australia, a total of 0.07 per cent of the world’s asylum seekers. If you compare this amount with the population of Australia at the time, this number appears very small. The source states that ‘If asylum seekers were to be distributed evenly amongst the world’s countries according to per capita population, then Australia would have to host 0.285 per cent of the world’s asylum seekers’.

I don’t see why immigrants are fine to live here but when it’s a refugee they are ‘Stealing the resources’. My opinion is that can accept more refugees.
